In Other Words.
An Alibi is proof that someone was not near a crime scene and therefore couldn't have committed the crime: he is not a suspect because he has a good alibi; he was out of the town visiting his sister on the night the robbery took place.
An Excuse is a reason given to explain a wrongdoing or offence: he had a good excuse for being late for the meeting; his car broke down.
An Explanation is information given to help someone understand something: the guide in the museum provided a very clear explanation of how the ancient pottery was made and used.
A Moral is the practical lesson in a fable: The moral of ``The Grasshopper and the Ant`` is that we should always plan for the future.
A Lesson is something that you learn from an experience: I learned many lessons from traveling alone. It's also a course of instruction that develops a skill: Sarah is taking swimming lessons.
A Message is the most important idea in a book or movie: The message of the movie Titanic is that love is stronger than death.
Watch Out!
Tell and Say.
The verb Tell is used with an object: I told my friend a joke / the truth / a story/ a lie / the answer.
We use Say when we report someone`s words: I said, ``you`re late.`` he said he had missed the bus.
